All about me
My background
My name is Diya Dadlani. I am a 16 year old high school student athlete. Although I currently play tennis, I have played several sports throughout my life and have always been extremely active. I love exercising, traveling, hanging out with my family and friends, and baking.
My story
Almost two and a half years ago, on November 2nd, 2020, I tested positive for COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic I imagined that if I were to test positive for COVID-19, I would be asymptomatic or experience very mild symptoms during the infection phase, because I was an extremely healthy, young multi-sport athlete. I was playing volleyball, tennis, basketball, and soccer during this time. Unfortunately I thought wrong, I experienced a wide range of symptoms during the initial infection phase, consisting of: headaches, muscle aches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, hallucinations, and loss of taste and smell. By the seventh day of the COVID-19 phase, I felt terrible, the most sick I had ever been. Soon, the headaches became unbearable, and my appetite was quickly decreasing due to the loss of taste. As the days went on, I continued to experience pain and discomfort. Eventually it was time for me to return to school and sports. By the end of November I ended up in the hospital due to the pain and a loss of strength on the right side of my body. During this time I was terrified. Terrified of never being able to walk, play sports, or even feed myself. The doctors eventually came to the conclusion that this was a result of COVID-19 and these were some long-term effects of the virus: Long COVID. I began seeing doctors, after doctors, after doctors. From neurologists, gynecologists, cardiologists, ayurvedic doctors, acupunturists, and homeopathic doctors I had seen them all within the first 6 months of intial infection. After many months, most of my symtpoms resolved leaving me only with loss of taste and chronic daily headaches.
